Built in 1550–1557 by Mimar Sinan for Suleiman the Magnificent. It is the heart of a complex of madrasas, a hospital and a soup kitchen. Suleiman and Hürrem Sultan rest in its tombs, and the rear garden looks out over the Golden Horn.

Tip

Don't miss the view from the rear garden at sunset. Lunch at the nearby bean-stew restaurants is a local tradition.
